Dr. Sumac Diaz was born and raised in Michigan where she attended the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) for her undergraduate and medical degrees. She moved to Newport News, Virginia for a residency that combined training in Obstetrics and Gynecology with Family Practice. With a better understanding of the disease process and preventative health she can care for women during their childbearing years and beyond. Dr. Diaz enjoys providing care to pregnant women and being a part of the birth process This education was the beginning of her desire to provide “Complete Care” to women.
While providing obstetrical coverage to the midwives at St. Francis in Richmond she was impressed by the level of care provided. She was moved by their patience and became more aware and appreciative of the midwifery model of care. She understands that what happens during this most intimate birth experience has a profound effect on women and their families. In exploring Richmond she was surprised that there were limited birth options in our community. As a community provider she became more passionate about offering women another option and started to develop Complete Care Birthing Center. Dr. Diaz appreciates her training as an obstetrician and her capability to identify problems when they arise and also greatly respects the natural process and the ability of women to give birth. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, date night with her husband, baking, jogging, mowing the lawn and painting (walls, not art)!
